Same opposition, same pitch, but a very different result!!
These 2 teams played each other earlier in the season, also on pitch 29, but on that ocassion, the Donabate team taught Raheny a lesson in goal-scoring, and drove away from St Annes with a pretty hefty win. But the Raheny team they met this time really turned things around.
Again with great support from the U-12 squad, we were able to field a full XV, and a couple of subs. We were also delighted to see Leo "'tis but a scratch!" Fallon back after a lengthy lay-off with a broken leg. The conditions were good, but our start was a little shaky. The early stages saw a quite a few fumbles and some wayward shooting when in front of goal. But with the bulk of possession, the omens for Raheny were good. Even when we lost the ball, the commitment to get it back was definitely there. And slowly, despite wastefullness in front of the posts, we started to build up a lead. After some wise words at half-time, the lads came back out for the second half and immediately we saw improvement, especially in our shooting. The lads took their points, and when the opportunities presented themselves, didnt hesitate about netting the ball. John Blundell put in a great performance in the middle of the park, making some great runs and smart passes. Leo in the first half, followed by James McManus in the second, did a great job in goal, keeping a clean sheet.
The end score-line was Raheny 4-5 to St Patricks Donabate 0-8. A great win for the lads, and a real confidence-booster going into the last few league games of 2015.
