Westmanstown beat us well in their home fixture earlier in the year, and on that occasion they looked a formidable team. But the recent good run of results by Raheny, and some not-so-great results for Westmanstown meant we went into this match just 2 points below them in the table, and really up for the challenge. Raheny made a great start to this game, putting the ball in the Westmanstown net with less than 2 minutes on the clock. This Westmanstown team were not making anything easy for our forwards, so every score was well earned. The fight to re-gain possession whenever we lost it began right up in our forward line, with Conor E winning some great turnovers, and showing composure in ront of the posts. We went in 2-6 to no score at half-time, and to be honest felt we should have been further ahead but for some wayward shooting. There was no let-up in te committment by Westmanstown in the second half, and they did put a few scores on the board. Raheny brough on some fresh legs, and we were happy to welcome Adam Mg back after a long spell out with injury. Final score was Raheny 3-10 to Westmanstown 1-2. This result puts us in joint second place in the division, level on points with Westmanstown and Sylvesters, with Na Fianna just 2 points further back. So with 3 games to go, the promotion battle in this division is looking interesting! Man-of-the-match: Conor English |
