Club Notes April 15th 2013

posted Apr 16, 2013, 1:49 PM by Kevin Brassil
Ogra was back to a flying start on Saturday after the Easter Holidays. As always it starts at 10am and all your child needs is a rain jacket and 3 euro. We are very proud of our stars of the future and are getting them off to a good start by giving them chopped fruit and water after their training.

Any information a mentor/manager wants shared in the club notes needs to get to PRO by Monday 10am at the latest. Information can be text to 086-2909022 or emailed pro.raheny.dublin@gaa.ie. Club notes can not be changed on the website, if there is a change in venue or times of matches this will be tweeted and put on Facebook. If you don't use either of these social medias go on to our website www.raheny.gaa.ie and on the left hand side there is a twitter and Facebook feed that you can scroll up and down.

Great win for the Dubs yesterday possibly down to the good luck their mascots brought them. A very proud Daniel and Matthew lead the lads out on to the pitch.

After a successful introduction last year, Peil Abú is starting back again. Peil Abú has all the skills, running and scoring of Gaelic Football but uses a tag system for tackling (which suits those who need to get up for work the next day!!). Anyone who has played this has always come back for more. More information on the rules can be found on our club webpage www.raheny.gaa.ie/teams/football/peil-abu.
We have a number of mentors from throughout the club who take part and parents of our younger members, ex-players, friends and everyone are all welcome to come along. We are meeting beside pitch 12a at 7.30pm on Monday 22nd April for the first game back. Please email Stuart at rahenypeilabu@gmail.com if you are interested in playing so that we can keep you updated on this through our email list.

Mentors retired and current.
.... If you have keys from dressing rooms/astro/the park lockup etc that you shouldn't have Please please leave them back to the club, it is costing the club on a weekly basis to replace these keys.

Raheny Player Injury Form - http://www.raheny.gaa.ie/parents/injuries This form can be downloaded from our website but it must be sent to the insurance company within 60 days of the players injury otherwise the claim will not be entertained. The form doesnt need to be signed by the club secretary.

On Saturday Night at 10.30pm the gate to the Astro was left swinging open, Key-holders please respect our facilities, leave the astro clean and locked after use.

Our Club shop is now in the old committee room, and its opening hours are 10am- 12 on Saturday morning.

U12 Hurlers have thrilling victory over Na Fianna.
  • Score: Raheny 4-7 Na Fianna 4-6
Raheny U12 hurlers have made a great start to U12 A Hurling Blitz. Having beaten St. Brigid's in first round, they took on Na Fianna away in their second match. With a very strong wind blowing, Raheny got going from start with 2 points and then a goal from Tom Geary. Na Fianna soon responded to bring it back to a draw. Adam Codd scored a goal from a penalty to give Raheny the lead again. Na Fianna keep at it but at half time Raheny lead by a point. The second half started at furious pace with Na Fianna getting another goal. It was tit for tat, back and forth. Tom Geary, playing full forward, fielded long puck outs until he was rewarded with another goal. Na Fianna keep coming and scored a number in points in return. Persistent fouling on Tom Geary, gave Raheny a number of frees. Liam Dunne scored a couple of points and then goal from a 20m free. Raheny keep battling and in the last minute won a free. Liam Dunne put it over the bar for a well deserved win. A great team performance demonstrating both great hurling and determination to win. Well done to the boys. Next match is Lucan Sarsfields at home in two weeks.

Raheny Under 8's are doing very well in their first season playing in organised leagues. We have a staggering 45 players on the panel and there is hope yet for the future of the dual player as the whole panel play in both the hurling and football leagues.
Our Maroon group (3 team league) played a hurling match at home to Naomh Barrog on Saturday and won 3 and drew 3 of the 6 matches. John Broderick and Jamie Kearns played with "Kilkenny- like" intensity to ensure a 3-2 lead was held onto in one of the close matches. Adam Loscher also scored a super goal in another game and John McNally almost burst the net with superb '65' for Michele/Damien's team. Mark Farrelly and Padraig Reilly were excellent in coming back to earn a 2-2 draw for Brian/Maeve's team.
Our White group (2 team league) played away to St Peregrines in Blanchardstown. Great results here again as we won 2,drew 1 and lost just 1 game. Paul Moriarity and Adam Roberts shone in a great overall team performance.
Similar theme – great team performance especially in the first match, wining 3-1. Losing 3-2 in the second but the manner in which they fought back from 3-0 down was especially pleasing, nearly pinching the draw in the end. Paul Moriarity scored four of our goals, a great hat trick in the first match and was assisted by Jamie Lambert who constantly pestered the oppositions defence. We had great defensive displays from Ted Laput and Naill Cox. The midfield engine of Ryan McGuirk and Jack McCarthy kept the team driving forward with strong puckouts from Ryan Kerrisk, was an assist in one of our goals.

Senior 1 Camogie team had a winning start to the league campaign Tuesday night at home to Oliver Plunketts winning by 1-13 to 1-5. First half was tight with Raheny leading by 3 points at half time but they really pulled away in second half with a tremendous performance by all players – special mention to Lorna Twohig who contributed 7 points.
Support would be very welcome for our Next match away to St Vincents B at 6.45 16th April.

Senior 4 Camogie team got their season back on track last Thursday evening. Having lost their first league match last month, the team were determined to get back to winning ways and show their true ability. This was demonstrated by a powerful 7-9 to 0-2 win against Naomh Padraig with the whole team putting in a big performance in difficult conditions. Particular credit to Emily Rheinish who contributed 4-3 and Niamh O Meara who scored 2-2. Next match away to Oliver Plunketts at 6.45 18th April.

Senior 7 Camogie kept their unbeaten run in the league with a good display against Naomh Finnbarra.
Both teams shared the spoils Raheny 3-5 Naomh Finnbarra 4-2.

Ladies football
put up a strong performance against Portmarnock on Wednesday in first league match of the season. 3-10 wasn't enough to beat our opponents on the day who showed great skill to see the match out to a victory for the Portmarnock girls.

U16 Div1 football Championship 1st Round; Super win and super team performance on Saturday from all the U16 players in the 1st round of the football championship. Played in energy sapping conditions the teams work ethic for each other & fitness showed through and they went on to a very convincing win. Raheny 5-11 Cuala 2-7.

AFL 4 Played St Oliver Plunkets on a wet Saturday afternoon. A great game and a result for us. Raheny 0.8 v 0.7 Plunkets.
