Club Notes January 9th 2012

Its that time of year again, Membership Fees for 2012 are due this month and all members are asked to pay their fees as soon as possible. Membership renewal forms will be posted to all members on Wednesday 11 January 2012. Membership week in the clubhouse from Monday 23 to Friday 27 January from 8-10pm. Please make a note to call in and pay your membership fees during this week. Alternatively, membership fees can also be paid by Credit Card or Laser at the club bar during opening hours.

As all are by now aware, annual membership fees only cover club Insurances and the various County Board Affiliation/League entry fees. Fundraising will be necessary if we want to maintain the high standards. All teams are asked to notify the club secretary regarding any proposed fundraising events, so that the club can co-ordinate same.

OGRA Nursery starts back this Saturday at 10:00am. Reminder to all that Kevin Welsh is the clubs CHILDRENS OFFICER.

Kevin is also spearheading a Cultural initiative to further promote the use of Irish during 2012.

An Plean Ghaeilge C.L.G. Rath Éanna - The objectives of the Irish Plan are:

  •         To enable mentors to give a training session through Irish.
  •         To show that Raheny G.A.A are willing to promote the Irish Language throughout the community.
  •         That Raheny G.A.A will be renowned as association that promotes the Irish language.
  •         That Irish classes will be available free of charge to club managers/trainers.
  •         That players will receive exposure to Irish during their GAA sporting activities.

The club was a hive of activity over the last week with lots of meetings taking place as management teams prepare for the coming 2012 season.

In a great morale boost for the club overall, its great to learn that Ciaran Whelan is back around the club. The 2012 AFL2 Management & Coaching team is Brendan Keane, Ray McDunphy, Colm McMahon, Neil Curley and Ciaran Whelan.

The Adult male teams across Football and Hurling started an intensive players Physical Assessment this week and immediately commence pre-season training. Players have been contacted and each adult team squads will be finalised when pre-season training has concluded.

The Adult ladies across Camogie & Ladies Footballers are joining up for their pre-season training.


Niall Dunne and the Facilities Committee are repairing, levelling and re-sodding the 4 goalmouths on Pitches 9 and 10 this Saturday morning 14th January, starting at 09:00. They need help (> 10 pairs of hands), if you can give a few hours, please phone or text Niall at 086-8141185 (after 5pm). Both pitches will then be out of action for a few weeks for training and matches.






Winter Training facilities are in place now for teams, anybody looking for access to external facilities, touch base with Ronan Leech who has a good overview of what is and is not available.



Dublin host 2 National Feiles 2012 over July 7th, 8th, 9th and Raheny GAA will be hosting travelling teams. Thanks to Enda Morris (Hurling) and Pat Stack (Camogie) who are have volunteered as the clubs Feile Co-Ordinators.

The GYM is being cleaned up this Friday afternoon,if you can give an hour to assist, please contact Conor Lee. A reminder that only RAHENY GAA CLUB MEMBERS are entitled to use the GYM and all are asked to keep it clean & tidy, by using bins provided.


If you have any surplus GYM equipment at home, please contact Greg Bennett who is compiling an inventory of GYM equipment upgrade requirements. The GYM diary for adults teams is currently being reviewed by Kevin Broderick in conjunction with Greg Bennett.

Winter Training Slots for the club Astro have now been finalised and circulated to mentors. Mentors on the earlier slots are asked to obtain light tokens and keys in advance, as the clubhouse opens from 7:30pm Monday to Thursday.  To view the the new time slots click here ...
