DUBLIN 1-11 CORK 1-3 (August 1st 2011)

A powerful opening half put Dublin on the road to victory in this All-Ireland MFC quarter-final at O’Moore Park, Portlaoise on Monday afternoon.

The Dubs got the dream start when Paul Mannion sent a daisy-cutter to the net from 15 metres in the opening minute.

From there Dublin dominated the first 30 minutes with the misfield partnership of Emmet O Conghaile and Paddy O’Higgins providing the platform for an impressive half.

Dublin’s forwards were full of running and points from Gavin Ivory (two), David Campbell and Ciarán Kilkenny (four, one free) helped Dessie Farrell’s side to a 1-8 to 0-0 interval advantage.

The Rebels were afforded few scoring opportunities but when they did find themselves inside the scoring range they were met by a disciplined defence who kept them at bay.

The start of the second half was a different story as Cork’s lone scorer, Dan Mac Eoin, used his strength well to find the net soon after the restart.

A free from Mac Eoin lifted Cork spirits as they began to explore the Route One option to 6’ 7’’ full-forward, Stephen O’Mahony.

After initially threatening to pay dividends the Dublin full-back line worked well as a unit to frustrate Cork and for the most part clean up the breaking ball.

However, Dublin survived Cork’s rally and points from Kilkenny (two) and Mannion (free) ensured the Dubs a safe passage into the semi-final where they will face Galway in Croke Park on August 28.

SCORRES - Dublin: C Kilkenny 0-6 (0-1f), P Mannion 1-1 (0-1f), G Ivory 0-2, E O Conghaile, D Campbell 0-1 each. Cork: D McEoin 1-3 (0-3f).
