Raheny 0-15 Round Towers (C) 0-11

In a closely fought relegation play off match today, Raheny came out on top 0-15 to 0-11, scoring 4 unanswered points in the last 10 minutes.

Playing against the wind and hill in the 1st half Raheny started well, Towers through the expert markmanship of corner forward John O'Brien, from both play and frees stayed in touch, David Henry kicked some great points from play/frees, with our backs Rob Donelly and Derek Brown scoring points, leaving the teams level 0-7 each at h/t.

The game was finely balanced and both teams traded point for point, with Towers edging in front with 15 mins left on the clock. The Raheny lads led by Rob Donnelly, Ciaran Whelan, David Henry, John & Donal Ryan and all the team upped the ante heading in the closing phase. The defence tightened up, laying the platform for our midfield (with Whelan tremendous under the high ball) to push on forward.

Points late in the 2nd half from experienced players Whelan, Henry, O'Keefe, Ryan and Murphy paved the way for a well desered victory.

Raheny retain 1st Division status for 2009 league.

Well done lads and thanks to the Management team of:

Tom O'Reilly (Manager), Ray McDunphy  and Brendan Keane for all their time and dedication during the year (indeed last few years)

Raheny preserve Division 1 status

The engine room of Dublin seniors David Henry and Ciaran Whelan drove Raheny to Division 1 safety when they defeated Round Tower Clondalkin, 0-15 to 0-11, at Balgriffin on Sunday.

The sides were level 0-7 each at hal-time but over the course of the hour Towers were too reliant on the scoring prowess of John OBrien and now accompany St Marks into Division 2 for the 2009 season.
